My Story

I'm Lucy - aka Freya's mum: pilates teacher, cat owner, dog lover, amateur runner and not really a swimmer!!

I'm raising money for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)  by swimming 11 miles over 12 weeks (that equates to half the English Channel). That might not sound like much but it's actually 80 lengths per mile in my local pool or 1610m per mile ..

Why JDRF? They are trying to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes! Not only that, but they research new treatments and also potential prevention methods for Type 1 Diabetes.

My daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) in October 2019 at age 14. With no family history of the condition, this was a complete shock to everyone! She has been able to self-medicate from the start ... this basically means giving herself minimum of 5 injections EVERY DAY ... plus numerous daily finger pricks to test her blood glucose levels. It is a constant science experiment just to get through each day.

A cure would be amazing ... better treatments would be amazing ... better understanding would be amazing ... and if I can help that by fundraising once a year, then I'm in ... please help me meet my fundraising target! Any amount would be awesome and could help provide cure for T1D within Freya's lifetime, wouldn't that be amazing!!! xxx   Thank you!! x
